Abertay University is in Dundee and their innovative approach is clear to see in their programme provision, which ranges from forensic, sport and food sciences to biotechnology, cybersecurity and computer games. Abertay is best known for computer games and were the first university in the world to launch a computer games degree.

Fast forward to the present day and Dundee is now a major hub in the booming videogames industry. For an internationally renowned institution, they’re also surprisingly small: one campus, in Dundee’s city centre and home to 4,000 students. Their staff and students come from over sixty countries.

The award winning computer games degrees offered by Abertay's School of Design and Informatics have been ranked best in Europe since 2015. The prestigious Princeton Review rankings show their games degrees in the undergraduate and postgraduate in the world top 25, while the University remains the best placed European institution.

Grand Theft Auto was created by an Abertay student and the game originated in Dundee.
Dundee is a creative hub and has more games developers per head of population than anywhere in Europe.
Abertay has one of the largest Sony PlayStation teaching labs in UK, outside Sony itself.
Many students have gone on to work for the very biggest names in the games industry - including Rockstar Games, 4J Studios, Ubisoft, Rocksteady and Naughty Dog.
Other students have successfully set up their own companies, such as TAG games, Hyper Luminal, Pixel Blimp and Puny Astronaut.
Their games students are taught by people who have worked on some of the biggest and most successful games in history.
95% of Abertay graduates are in work or further education six months after graduating (HESA, July 2018).

They help bridge the gap between university and industry so their students enter the modern job market with confidence. Small and personal

Their small size makes for a more personal student experience. It’s easier to settle in and make friends with classmates. The lecturers get to know their students by name and spend time with them. The relationship between Abertay staff and students is a large part of what makes the University special. They offer international students an immersive experience with plenty of locals in classes.

Innovative

In addition to being the first university in the world to offer a computer games degree, they were also first to offer a degree in Ethical Hacking. Moreover, they were the first university in Scotland to offer a Computer Arts degree.
